Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners at BRBH are responsible for mental health a! ssessment, treatment, and medication management in an adult outpatient setting. The ability to make independent decisions regarding patient mental health treatment under the medical direction and supervision of psychiatrist in this setting, as indicated by Virginia Board of Health Professionals, is essential.
Practice responsibilities include: obtaining health/mental health history and assessments, using specialized screening tools as needed; prescribing medications as indicated for mental health stabilization; understanding and ordering necessary labs and or diagnostic procedures and conferring with appropriate internal and external care providers; monitoring and evaluating medication results and outcomes, and making treatment changes as indicated; managing and updating electronic medical record in a timely manner; counseling clients regarding care plans with encouragement to maintain compliance. Ability and willingness to provide educational and clinical suppor! t within the Psychiatric Services Program, and to other BRBH s! taff and teams; participating in treatment team meetings and serving on agency committees, as requested. Qualifications:
1. Excellent oral and written communication skills
2. Basic computer/software skills including the use of voice recognition software.
3. Clinical proficiency with the treatment of psychiatric illness and substance use disorders.
4. The ability to establish therapeutic relationships with those with severe and persistent mental illness and related disabilities.
5. Knowledge of medical record documentation and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
6. Knowledge of treatment to those with psychiatric illnesses, substance use disorders, and psychopharmacology.
7. Professional and personal maturity and judgment to operate collegially and collaboratively.
8. Master's! Degree in Nursing
9. Licensed as a Nurse Practitioner in the Commonwealth of Virginia
