You will be responsible for the integration, facilitation, and coordination of administrative and clinical practice for an inpatient psychiatric unit, primarily serving senior adults. Director of Nursing - RN (Behavioral Health Care)

Job Responsibilities

As a Director of Nursing, you will coordina! te with the Program Director to provide effective leadership f! or your department. It will be your responsibility to provide an environment for effective relationship-based nursing care and to ensure that the department consistently provides high quality care with positive patient outcomes.

Your specific duties as Director of Nursing will include:

  • Providing supervision to the Lead Partners who direct the day-to-day activities of the unit-based staff
  • Ensuring efficient fiscal operation of the Department of Psychiatry including budget development and the management of all resources needed in order to meet all productivity and all fiscal targets
  • Seeking and acting upon patient, family and staff feedback and initiating appropriate action
  • Promoting, developing and evaluating processes and systems for patient care and initiating systems
  • Leading the development and implementation of policies, procedures and standards of care necessary for the coordination and delivery of excelle! nt patient care
  • Identifying proactively and prospectively the need for change and process improvements for operational excellence related to cost, quality and service
  • Evaluating the outcomes of patient care, using patient satisfaction and other customer satisfaction information to recommend and integrate appropriate changes
  • Ensuring compliance with hospital, state, federal and licensing agency regulatory standards
  • Leading and/or participating in QI groups and other multidisciplinary meetings
  • Seeking collaboration with community health organizations to achieve positive outcomes and enhance the hospital's community presence
  • Holding staff accountable for safe, compliant and efficient practice and the maintenance of appropriate interpersonal relationships and good customer service
As Director of Nursing, you must have strong demonstrated leadership/management experience in an acute care setting, as well as strong ! knowledge of administrative and clinical systems. It is also important ! that you have exceptional verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact in a tactful and respectful manner with staff, patients, family members and visitors.

Specific qualifications for the Director of Nursing position include:

  • Master's degree in Behavioral Sciences in Nursing or related field; MSN with psychiatric certification, a plus; BSN with a different Master's degree may be acceptable
  • Minimum 3 years as Director of Nursing over a psychiatric services department
  • Demonstrated experience working with chemical dependency and psychiatric patient issues
  • Certification and/or Licensure in a clinical specialty area such as Registered Nurse, Clinical Nurse Specialist, or Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner
  • Ability to effectively assess, plan and implement therapeutic services in a multidisciplinary setting and in multi-site facilities
  • Knowledge and skill in a wide variety of behav! ioral health theories, modalities, assessments, planning and intervention
  • Understanding of and ability to operate under contract management
  • Computer proficiency
  • Professional appearance and demeanor
  • Bilingual ability in English and Spanish a plus
  • Strong training skills, a plus
