Virginia Commonwealth Universityâ??s Department of Psychiatry and its Institute for Psychiatric and Behavioral Genetics (VIPBG) seeks a Grants Manager to be responsible for the management of external and internal funding for sponsored research programs. The successful candidate will be a key member of the administrative team in the Department and will serve as an essential resource for grant administration activities. The successful candidate will perform fiscal operations of grant awards including overseeing the processing of accounts payable, deposits, procurements, and accounting records. S/he will interact with other fiscal staff to reconcile and correct departmental grant accounts on a monthly basis. S/he will monitor weekly grant deficit reports, take corrective action, prepare monthly, interim, and final expenditure reports for the Department and VIPBG Administrator. S/he will serve as a resource for grant proposals, technical issues and will provide technical support on grant and contract administration using appropriate policies and procedures. S/he will provide all pre and post award budgetary requirements including needed budgetary forecasts. S/he will perform other administrative duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

KSAâ??s and/or Competencies: - Extensive knowledge in research administration; background/familiarity with research protocols, grants management, grant reporting, and subcontracts; especially federal grants (i.e. the National Institutes of Health). - Thorough knowledge of, and experience with, the fundamental federal regulations applicable to the conduct of research projects, including OMB circulars A-21, A-110, and A-133 as well as fiscal practices used by research institutions and sponsors. - Ability to manage grant funds, payroll, budgeting, finance, purchasing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and travel functions. - Demonstrated ability to monitor the use of multiple funding sources and extensive experience managing/reconciling financial information. - Superior computer skills in the area of spreadsheet applications, word processing, databases, Adobe Acrobat, and Power Point. - Ability to review and organize large amounts of data into various formats, for presentation and discussion. - Ability to analyze financial transactions for conformity with procedures and recognize problems or trends. - Strong organizational, personnel management, and communications skills are essential. - Skilled in managing multiple projects concurrently, deadlines, and changing priorities in a high volume setting. - Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively in a large and complex organization and in a diverse work environment. - Ability to provide detailed projections and to assist in monitoring revenue and expenditure activities. - Superior analytical skills. - Working knowledge of eVA, Banner, SAS Web Report Studio, Sponsored Programs InfoEd system (ERA Portal), NIH eRACommons and ISIS VCU databases, and/or other higher education enterprise resource packages. - Excellent skills in written and oral communication. Education: Significant college coursework in business and accounting required. Bachelorâ??s degree in accounting, business administration or related field is preferred. An advanced degree in business, public health, or public administration or related field is desired. Experience: Several years of experience in sponsored research/grant administration at an institution of higher education or comparable institution required. Certification: VCUâ??s Sponsored Project Administration Certificate and/or other research certification is highly desired. If not already certified, expectation that the incumbent will complete the VCU Sponsored Project Administration Certification within 2 years of starting in the position.
