Virginia Commonwealth University's Department of Psychiatry and its Institute for Psychiatric and Behavioral Genetics (VIPBG) seeks an experienced Sr. Research Administra! tor to be responsible for the submissions and post-award management of external and internal funding for sponsored research programs. The successful candidate will be a key member of the administrative team in the Institute and will serve as an essential resource for all grant administration activities. The successful candidate will perform fiscal operations of grant awards including overseeing the processing of accounts payable, deposits, procurements, and accounting records performed by the Fiscal Assistant. S/he will interact with faculty to review monthly grant reconciliation reports, and correct departmental grant accounts as necessary. S/he will monitor weekly grant deficit reports and take corrective action. Prepare necessary expenditure reports for internal and external funding sources in compliance with VCU financial policies. S/he will serve as a resource to all faculty for grant proposals, compliance issues relating to sponsored funding, and will provide technica! l support on grant and contract administration using appropria! te policies and procedures. S/he will provide all pre and post award budgetary requirements including budget forecasts. S/he will perform other duties as assigned by the VIPBG Administrator.

Minimum Qualifications

KSAâ??s and/or Competencies: - Extensive knowledge in research administration; background/familiarity with animal and human research protocols, post award grants management and reporting, pre award activities, and subcontracts; working knowledge of effort reporting. - Thorough knowledge of, and experience with, the fundamental federal regulations applicable to the conduct of research projects, including OMB circulars A-21, A-110, and A-133 as well as fiscal practices used by research institutions and sponsors. - Ability to manage grant funding with experience in labor distribution, budgeting, finance, purchasing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and travel operations. - Demonstrated ability to monitor the use of multiple funding sou! rces and extensive experience managing/reconciling financial information. - Superior computer skills in the areas of spreadsheet applications, word processing, databases, Adobe Acrobat, and Power Point. - Ability to review and organize large amounts of data into various formats, for presentation and discussion. - Ability to analyze financial transactions for conformity with procedures and recognize problems or trends. - Strong organizational, personnel management, and communications skills are essential. - Skilled in managing multiple projects concurrently, deadlines, and changing priorities in a high volume setting. - Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively in a large and complex organization and in a diverse work environment. - Ability to provide detailed projections and to assist in monitoring revenue and expenditure activities. - Superior analytical skills. - Working knowledge of eVA, Oracle applications such as Banner, SAS Web Report Studio, Sponsored Program! s InfoEd system (ERA Portal), NIH eRACommons and ISIS VCU databases, an! d/or other higher education enterprise resource packages. - Excellent skills in written and oral communication. Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelorâ??s degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field or an equivalent combination of college and related experience. An advanced degree in Business, Public health, or Public Administration or related field is preferred. Experience: Several years of experience in sponsored research/grant administration at an institution of higher education or comparable institution. Certification: VCUâ??s Sponsored Project Administration Certificate and/or CRA designation is highly desired. If not already certified, expectation that the incumbent will complete the VCU Sponsored Project Administration Certification within 2 years of starting in the position.
