This position is physical location at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia (CBOC) within the Physical Medicine Service of the Washington, DC Veterans Affairs Medical Center (DC VAMC).

The DC VAMC is one of the most visible and dynamic facilities in the VA System. This tertiary care teaching facility provides acute general and specialized services in medical, neurology, psychiatry as well as offering a nursing home care unit. The medical center also oversees a satellite Substance Abuse Clinic and three Veteran Centers.

The Medical CenterÂ's staff of over 2,000 provides care to veterans residing in the District of Columbia, Virginia and Maryland treating over 50,000 veterans and over 500,000 outpatient visits each year. The DC VAMC is affiliated with four medical centers: The George Washington University, Georgetown University, Howard University and the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and many other colleges and universities in the following are! as: pharmacy, rehabilitation medicine, biomedical engineering,! dietetics, social work, nursing and medical center management.

The incumbent is responsible for provision of Physical
Therapy services within Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) and
following all policies and procedures.
In accordance with PM&R policies, the incumbent will be assigned a
prim! ary rehabilitation assignment but may provide coverage for any area of
PM&R pending patient and staffing demands.
The incumbent is a licensed physical therapist who performs at the full
performance level. He/she is responsible
for administering physical therapy programs to adult and geriatric adult
patients referred from all areas of the medical center, either directly or
through the Lead Therapist, Clinical Supervisor or Coordinator, Rehabilitation
Services or staff physiatrist.

Administer physical therapy
programs to adult and geriatric adult patients referred from all areas of the
medical center.

Plans and carries out the full range of treatment where
therapeutic objectives are complex.

Coordinate and employ several treatment approaches
simultaneously to accomplish complex treatment in a timely manner.

Plans and implements appropriate patient education programs,
involving the patient, fam! ily members and caregivers in the instructional
process.

C! ommunicates readily with the multidisciplinary treatment
team; advising the team of patientÂ's needs and progress.

Involves the patient, family members, caregivers, and
pertinent health care staff in the treatment process by maintaining effective
communications.

Maintains accurate records, attendance, progress, and final
disposition, and submit necessary monthly and quarterly information in a timely
and accurate manner.

Performs as a Student Clinical Instructor which includes
planning, scheduling, coordinating, evaluating, and implementing the student
affiliation program.

Reviews the objectives and goals of the studentÂ's
affiliations and plan learning experience accordingly.

Achieves and maintains functional independence measure
certification.

Schedules his/her patients for treatment, considering
priority.

Maintains accurate records, attendance, progress, and final
di! sposition

Attends and participates in all departmental staff meetings
and training sessions

Plans and presents in-service education programs, when
requested, to the PT section, PM&R staff and other services, as
appropriate.

Performs as a Student Clinical Instructor which includes planning,
scheduling, coordinating, evaluating, and implementing the student affiliation
program.

Acts as a liaison with affiliated colleges and universities,
participating with facility members in evaluation, and revision of program and
curriculum.

Reviews the objectives and goals of the studentÂ's
affiliations, and plans learning experiences accordingly.

Responsible for the physical therapy programs and clinics to
which he/she is assigned.

Achieves and maintains functional independence measure
certification

Documents all notes in a timely manner. Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 8:00am- 4:! 30pm, occasional weekend coverage required

You will be rated on the following Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other characteristics (KSAOs) as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position.

  • Knowledge of principles, concepts and methodology of a wide range of technical methods and practices in the field of Physical Therapy.
  • Knowledge of designing, evaluating, revising, and/or developing individualized treatment plans to meet the objectives of each patientÂ's rehabilitation program.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with others in a team environment to accomplish goals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY : In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in! order to meet the requirements of this position.

BASIC REQUIREMENT :
Degree: Graduate from a degree program in physical therapy from an approved college or university approved by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). The CAPTE is the only accreditation agency recognized by the United States Department of Education (USDE) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) to accredit entry-level physical therapy program.

Specialized Experience: One year of experience in the same or similar work equivalent to at least the next lower level (GS-09) requiring application of the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the position being filled. Candidates for this position must clearly demonstrate in their resume that they possess specialized experience which involves extensive experience in applying physical therapy theory, principles, practices and techniques and in developing and adapting individua! l physical therapy treatment programs.

GS- 09 - Incumbent must! have 1 year of post degree progressively responsible experience equivalent to the next lower grade or a master's degree in physical therapy or a directly related field.

GS-11 - Incumbent must have one year progressively complex experience equivalen to the GS-9; or 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a doctoral degree; or doctoral degree in physical therapy or a directly related field.

Note : Canidates must fully demonstrate the KSAO's.
