About the Position:

Position requires Board certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Duty location: You will be working for the Department of Behavior Health in the Adult Behavioral Health section of Fort Belvoir Community Hospital.

DUTIES:
As a Physician you will perform duties as a Practitioner and Consultant in Psychiatry with emphasis on problems of all levels of complexity and providing treatment services including, but not limited to; inpatient service, partial hospitalization service, intensive outpatient services, routine outpatient services, and consultation liaison services. Provide continuing follow-up care for chronic inpatients and outpatients with acute disorders and complications of these disorders, such as: psychosis, organic brain syndrome, and substance abuse/addictions. Provide psychiatric care for walk-in patients. Make recommendations on major diagnostics and treatment plans. Collaborate with physicians in other medical specialties on cases involving complicated and multifaceted problems. Make decisions on recommending hospitalization or determining a service member's fitness for duty. Assess and complete Medical Evaluation Board (MEB), Temporary Disability Retirement List (TDRL) evaluations, psychological autopsies, sanity boards, command consultations, and other administrative processes and prepares reports.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Minimum Qualifications:
Degree: Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of the applicants graduation. [A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school that provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States may be demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) (or a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country).] Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in an institution accredited for such training. Licensure: Candidates must have a permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Specialized Experience: One year of experience in the same or similar work equivalent to at least the next lower level (GP-14) requiring application of the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the position being filled. Candidates for this position must clearly demonstrate in their resume that they possess specialized experience which involves providing psychiatric treatment services for complex psychiatric disorders; inpatient and outpatient care; and providing follow up care. At least one year of this experience must have been at the next lower level, which would involve independent treatment of complex cases requiring advanced skills. Board Certification: Applicants must be board certified in the specialty of Psychiatry. Board Certification must be listed on your resume.
