Special Compensation â" Pay Annual Incentive:
American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology Certification (ABPN) of $10,000 for Board eligible; $13,000 for Board Certification;
General Definition of Work, Typical tasks, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Performs difficult professional psychiatry practice and administrative work to provide the principle medical direction to Community Services management and professional staff to achieve general objective of providing clients with professional psychiatric services associated with mental health, mental retardation, substance abuse and prevention programs, and directly practice primary patient care. Works under general supervision of the Medical Director/Psychiatrist.
TYPICAL TASKS:
Advises senior management of Community Services and consults with other practitioners on medical aspects of policy formulation and performance standards associated with program planning, organization, coordination, administration and evaluation; Diagnoses symptomatic attitudes, emotions and behaviors by conducting or ordering and analyzing results of interviews and physical or psychological examinations and tests; and dictates reports using electronic speech software; Investigates and documents personal and family medical histories and circumstances by conferring with own or other medical and human services agency staffs, relatives or other concerned parties, and by writing clinical or forensic evaluative reports on case findings and maintaining confidential medical records; Formulates plan to prevent or treat disorders or illnesses including developmental disabilities, and suicide or crisis intervention by prescribing medication, practicing or directing somatic, group and milieu psychotherapy and/or making referrals to other practitioners or agencies; Recommends court commitment proceedings and assesses competency to stand trial which includes testifying as expert witness.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Comprehensive knowledge of psychiatry including clinical and forensic evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of patients; thorough knowledge of professional principles and clinical procedures of mental health, mental retardation, substance abuse care, and preventive services; thorough knowledge of the use of Electronic Health Record; thorough knowledge of professional standards, regulations, ordinances and laws governing Community Services and psychiatry; general knowledge of basic computer functions including personal computers and applicable software; ability to effectively use all instruments and equipment necessary to deliver quality patient care; ability to examine, diagnose, prescribe and dispense medication and devices; ability to effectively treat patients in a non-judgmental and culturally sensitive manner; ability to functionally advise on medical aspects of planning, coordinating, administering, and evaluating Community Services Board programs; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with persons of different backgrounds including patients, County officials, psychiatrists, nurses allied therapy professionals and the general public; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Education and Experience:
Requires Doctor of Medicine in Psychiatry; completion of associated residency or intern program; and 2-3 years previous related medical practice in a human services clinical environment, preferably including forensic assessment and functional program management.
Special Requirements:
Must be licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia to practice medicine; Must possess a valid driverâs license; Must pass TB test; Offer of employment is contingent upon the candidate passing a fingerprint based national criminal history record check.
