The Salem VA Medical Center is seeking a full-time, temporary Pulmonologist to join its staff of experienced professionals as a core member and integral part of the SCAN-ECHO Team assigned to the Medical Center. The Specialty Care Access Network-Extension for Healthcare Outcomes (SCAN-ECHO) is an innovative health care program that is designed to support local treatment of chronic and complex diseases in rural and medically underserved areas through consultation, education and training. The SCAN-ECHO Pulmonologist works with other SCAN-ECHO Team members to provide expert technical assistance, strategic guidance and consultation in the delivery of pulmonary services for patients regarding complex medical conditions and mental health issues affecting their medical care and/or psychosocial functioning. The successful candidate should be inti! mately acquainted with clinical treatment modalities, administ! rative and clinical support systems, and implementation sciences, as well as knowledgeable about multifaceted health care delivery systems and their relationship to external review organizations and hospital and service level operations. Members of the SCAN-ECHO Team also participate in SCAN-ECHO related and parallel T21 programs as deemed appropriate which may include PACT TILC, Specialty Care Surgical Care Team Based Neighborhood Program, and Education.
Salem VA Medical Center
, located in the Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), is a 298-bed, Joint Commission accredited, complexity level 1C facility serving Veterans in southwestern Virginia. SVAMC is located in Salem, Virginia with community based outpatient clinics in Lynchburg, Wytheville, Staunton, Danville, and Tazewell. SVAMC's primary service area includes 26 counties representing over 8,800 sq. miles with a population of over 112,500 Veterans. SVAMC provides primary care and specialty care ! with a broad scope of available clinical services. Comprehensive health care is provided through primary care, tertiary care and long-term care in areas of medicine, surgery, mental health, extended care and rehabilitation, spinal cord injury, and supportive and social services.

DUTIES:
Maintains full responsib! ility for implementation, evaluation, leadership, guidance, consultation, and oversight of all pulmonology program components for SCAN-ECHO at the Regional level.
Provides education and coordinates training from the Salem VAMC SCAN-ECHO team widely across Regions VISNs, and at the local facility level regarding the implementation of SCAN-ECHO policies and the use of evidence-based behavioral health practices and clinical practice guidelines.
Provides expert professional advice and consultation in areas related to professional pulmonary health issues.
Facilitates the improvement of qualify and availability of treatment, prevention, and rehabilitation services in order to reduce illness, death, and cost for patients with complex medical conditions and mental health concerns.
Provides consultation and leadership to members of the clinical and administrative staff at all levels of the system for implementation of the SCAN-ECHO Program.
Applies clinical and administrative knowledge in identification, analysis, and resolution of issues pertaining to the quality of health care in the SCAN-ECHO Program.
Collaborates with regional, VISN, and local level leadership and clinical providers through video and teleconference to provide expert consultation of patients with unmanaged chronic medical conditions with multiple comorbidities.
Oversees the establishment of quality assurance processes for all behavioral health SCAN interventions.
Participates actively in other clinical, educational, and research activities of the Pulmonary Section including conventional continuity clinics, outreach clinics, supervision/performance/interpretation of non-invasive and/or invasive pulmonary diagnostic procedures, attending on inpatient services, didactic and bedside teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows assigned to Pulmonary Section, and laboratory and/or clinical research, as applic! able.
Provides full range of pulmonology diagnosis and treatme! nt services in providing quality care for complex cases with multiple comorbidities.
Provides an overview of National, Regional, VISN, and local level program evaluation data and research at VA and regional or national Scientific or professional meetings, as appropriate.
Incumbent may be involved in Medical Training Programs locally and with academic affiliates.

PHYSICIAN REQUIREMENTS FOR EDUCATION:
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:

Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted.

Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.

Schools (including foreign schools) acce! pted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth, or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure.
