Postdoctoral Associate
Location: , Virginia
Description: VA Tech is in need of Postdoctoral Associate right now, this occupation will be ordered in Virginia. Detailed specification about this occupation opportunity please read the description below. The team, led by Dr. Rosalyn Moran employs both theoretical (predictive coding) and empirical (fMRI and EEG) neuroscientific approaches to understand the principles of functional integration in active brain netwo! rks. The focus of their current research is to investigate whether and how human neurochemistry and connectivity accrue properties such as redundancy, hyper-activation or hypo-activation over the lifespan across multiple cognitive domains, using techniques that include non-invasive neuroimaging, computational modelling, behavioural testing and pharmacological manipulations. The group collaborates widely with international scientists from a range of disciplines, including animal electrophysiology, translational neuromodeling, clinical neurology and computational psychiatry. Project Background: Age is the primary risk factor for a class of serious neurological disorders, grouped collectively as neurodegenerative diseases (NDDs) and characterized by deficits in cognitive and motor function; functions that emerge from the concerted activity of interacting brain regions. Findings from the disparate domains of molecular biology and neuroimaging suggest a change in demand on corti! cal networks, at the level of individual cells, brain regions ! and pathways. The focus of the candidatesâ?? research will be to develop and deploy bridging methodologies, such as model-based connectivity analysis (dynamic casual modeling) to scale multiple levels of neurobiological composition and link aging cognition to its synaptic physiological substrates. Candidates will be encouraged to develop their careers to become world leaders in imaging analysis methodologies and/or theoretical neurobiology, while supporting the laboratoryâ??s research goals in understanding lifespan changes in cognition and neurobiology. Successful candidates will be expected to: 1. Develop methodological approaches to brain connectivity analysis using EEG and fMRI 2. Construct testable network-based theories within cognitive domains relevant to neurodegenerative disease 3. Oversee the recruitment and data acquisition from adult lifespan cohorts 4. Analyze data and present results locally, at international conferences and in peer-reviewed publications 5. ! Coordinate pharmacological experiments in association with local physicians 6. Mentor junior group members in neuroimaging data analysis 7. Represent the group in outside discussions (technical and scientific fora) including with local faculty and the groupâ??s international collaborative researcher laboratories
