Purpose and Scope: The Psychiatric Occupational Therapist provides activity oriented therapy to enable patients with psychosocial disability to develop life shills utilizing A.O.T.A. standards of practice. The psychiatric occupational therapist coordinates the therapeutic program with the art therapist, recreational therapists and others.
I. Position Requirements
A. Education: Graduation from AOTA accredited program in Occupational Therapy with a Bachelors,
Masters or Certificate in Occupational Therapy. Obtainment of Food Manager's Certification is recommended.
B. Experience: Acute psychiatric experience preferred. Will consider a new graduate.
II. Special Considerations
The employee will be able to:
- Follow written and oral instructions
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality
- Posses the ability to make independent decisions, ! and have abroad knowledge of Hospital's/Division's philosophie! s, policies/procedures.
- Deal tactfully and pleasantly with co-workers, visitors and patients; work harmoniously with co-workers maintaining a high level of “hospitality†in compliance with the Guest relations Policy
- Maintain high level of administrative required competencies and pursue continuing education as appropriate. The Psychiatric Occupational Therapist is also responsible for demonstrating competence and safety while performing elements of the job description. The therapists must be flexible and demonstrate ability to work collaboratively with other members of the expressive therapy staff, nursing and psychiatrists.
