Cook Counseling Center invites applications for a Staff Psychologist/Counselor with a primary interest in college student mental health. We are particularly interested in ! applicants who have interest and experience in working with student athletes and/or international students. This is a full-time professional faculty appointment at our Blacksburg, VA facility. The Cook Counseling Center is accredited by the International Association of Counseling Services and its internship program is accredited by the American Psychological Association. The Cook Counseling Center provides mental health services to the student community of Virginia Tech. The Staff Psychologist/Counselor works with a multidisciplinary staff of psychologists, counselors, psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, psychology interns and practicum students to deliver services that maintain the highest standards of professional and ethical care. The Staff Psychologist/Counselor has responsibility for the following: provide individual services to students including initial assessment, diagnosis, and determination of treatment needs; conduct on-going individual, couples, and group psycho! therapy with students; conduct crisis interventions as needed ! during after-hours emergency on-call rotation; supervise pre-doctoral interns in APA-approved site as well as practicum students; provide outreach services to the university community. This position will serve as a liaison to Recreational Sports & Athletics, serve as a consultant for performance enhancement for a wide range of sport teams and individuals, and coordinate with other treatment professionals serving athletes. Occasional travel may be necessary to attend seminars, retreats, continuing education and professional development opportunities. Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D./Psy.D. (ABD is acceptable but must have completed degree within one year of hire) in Counseling/Clinical Psychology from APA-approved program with APA or APPIC approved internship. Licensed as a psychologist or license eligible in the Commonwealth of Virginia (must be licensed within two years of hire). Preferred experience in either (a) supervised experience in working with student athletes, preferably towards certification as a Certified Consultant by AASP or other credentialing agency or (b) a year's experience in working with international students in a college counseling center.
