Salem VA Medical Center (SVAMC)is seeking afull-time Dermatologistto join its experienced staff ofphysicians and health professionalsin the Department of Medicine at the Medical Center. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive care for patients within thescope of generaldermatology practice. The candidate's practice will be focused primarily within the Dermatology Clinic of the Salem VAMC, with the occasional requirement for inpatient consultation throughout the Medical Center.Salem VA Medical Center, located in the Mid-Atlan! tic Health Care Network (VISN 6), is a 298-bed, Joint Commissi! on accredited, complexity level 1C facility serving Veterans in southwestern Virginia.SVAMC provides primary care and specialty care with a broad scope of available clinical services in areas of medicine, surgery, mental health, extended care and rehabilitation, spinal cord injury, and supportive and social services. Salem VA Medical Center is also a teaching hospital, maintaining three active medical school affiliations with the University of Virginia School of Medicine, the Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine, and the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. Required Skills:
Candidates must meet the following basic requirements for employment as a physician with the Department of Veterans Affairs:
- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Physicians appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English.
- Candidates must have comple! ted a first-year residency, or its equivalent, in aa approved residency program.
- Full-time physicians earn 26 days of paid annual leave each year, in addition to 13 days of earned sick leave, and 10 paid Federal holidays;
- Availability of a variety of individual and group health insurance plans with premium contributions paid by the Federal government;
- Options for term life insurance, including supplemental family coverage, based on salary with premium costs shared by the Federal government;
- VA physicians are covered by the Federa! l Tort Claims Act, under which the United States Government accepts res! ponsibility and liability for the actions of its employees during the exercise of their official duties. As a result, VA physicians are not required to carry personal malpractice (or tail) coverage for their practice with VA;
- Direct Federal membership to AMA without local dues; and
- Annual performance-based bonuses
