Description: Arlington County, VA is in need of MENTAL HEALTH THERAPIST II (Curriculum &... right now, this vacancy will be designated in Virginia. This position is a day program staff position working with adults with serious mental illness in a rehabilitation program. The employee is responsible primaril! y for the formulation and continued development of psycho educational curriculum in collaboration with program staff and the provision of consultation and training to staff on evidence-based educational methods.

In addition, the employee is responsible for the running of several psycho educational and socialization groups, providing supportive counseling and crisis intervention and participating in the day-to-day operation of the psychosocial day program. Specific duties are:

  • Plan and develop community living skills curriculum and psycho educational methods in working with individuals with SMI;
  • Work with other day program staff and serve as consultant and trainer in evidence-based teaching methods, aimed at the effective education of clients in the wide range of functional skills;
  • Provide quality clinical and rehabilitative services to consumers of program (Provide psycho educational groups related to a range of community living funct! ions and participates in socialization activities) Thereby, as! sists clients in learning about self-care, transportation, symptom self-management, employment, social relationships, health promotion, housing and independent living, and family relationships;
  • Maintain clinical record documentation of rehabilitation assessments, service plans and progress notes for clients on caseload and of provided psycho educational and skill development groups; and
  • Work with team of case managers, day program staff and psychiatrist to provide psycho educational learning, counseling, and crisis intervention.
Selection Criteria:
Minimum: Master's degree from an accredited college or university in a clinical discipline such as Counseling, Psychiatric Social Work, Psychology, Psychiatric Nursing, or other directly related clinical discipline, all of which required a clinical practicum involving diagnostic and treatment services, plus two years post-Master's degree experience providing clinical therapy and othe! r mental health services, which included the application of diagnostic and treatment services.

Substitution: Directly-related higher level clinical degrees may substitute for the Master's degree education requirement and one year of experience. In the case of this substitution, qualifying work experience must have been gained after the acquisition of the directly related higher level clinical degree.

Desirables:
a) A Virginia clinical license or license eligibility upon hire with license to be received within two years is highly desirable;
b) Experience with psychosocial rehabilitation programs;
c Experience working with seriously mentally ill adults;
d) Experience in the use of educational principles of teaching and learning as it relates to rehabilitation and treatment, including the identification and/or development of psycho educational and skill development curriculum describing the psycho educational content, objectives ! and teaching strategies;
e) Experience integrating evidence-based t! eaching/learning principles into teaching methods; and
f) Professional-level writing skills to compose clinical record documentation.

The applicant must possess, or obtain by the time of appointment, a valid motor vehicle operator's license from the applicant's place of residence. The applicant must authorize Arlington County to obtain, or the applicant must provide a copy of the applicant's official state/district driving record. Work Hours: Monday through Friday, 40 hour workweek - 8:30 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.
