Eastern State Hospital is part of the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services ( DBHDS ) system, and is accredited by the Joint Commission. ESH invites applications for the position of Psychiatrist.
Reporting directly to the Chief Medical Director, duties and responsibilities consist of the following:
1. Conduct psychiatric and general medical examinations and evaluations to include status changes.
2. Ensure medical history, mental status, and physical examinations are completed according to policy, TJC and CMS standards and other regulatory agencies.
3. Provide DSM -5 Diagnoses that are valid.
4. Prescribe medications at the lowest effective dose in accordance with rational psychopharmacological practices.
5. Assess and address medication side-effects and report adverse drug reactions.
6. Attend judicial hearings on campus, appropriate to assigned patient population.
7. Provide effective leadership in developing and maintaining the therapeutic process between physicians, nursing staff, psychologists, social workers, rehab staff and patients.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Demonstrated knowledge of medical standards and fundamentals.
2. Current, unexpired Virginia license to practice Medicine in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
3. Current, unexpired DEA registration.
4. Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy educational credential, and completion of an accredited / approved psychiatry residency training program.
5. Demonstrated ability to examine, evaluate, diagnose and treat psychiatric and mental illnesses.
6. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
7. Demonstrated ability to work with multidisciplinary treatment teams ensuring development, planning, implementation and evaluation of treatment.
8. Skilled in the use of technology, software, and resources to assist and aid in the course of daily medical responsibilities.
9. Skilled in documenting medical records and articulating and interacting with patients and others regarding clinical / administrative concerns or issues.
10. Ability to serve as an on-call physician when scheduled and as needed.
