Have education as follows: Either (a), a bachelor's degree in Nursing; or (b) a diploma gradu! ate in Nursing; or (c) an associate degree in Nursing from a National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) accredited program.
Possess current unrestricted license to practice as a registered nurse in one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Possess a minimum of 1 year of experience as a RN within the last 2 years; have obtained the minimum experience working as a psychiatric nurse.
Possess and maintain at all times, current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS); the American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Course is the only program accepted.
Scheduling details:
The inpatient psychiatric unit requires is operational 24-hours a day, 365 days per year. Services shall be required for a shift between 8.5 and 12.5 hours in length with an uncompensated .5 hour meal break. Services shall be required on a rotating basis on Federal holidays.
D! uties include, but are not limited to the following:
F! ormulate and implement a comprehensive, goal directed plan of care which is based on individualized application of the nursing process, including early identification of the patient's emotional and discharge planning requirements and outcomes.
Systematically monitor effectiveness of practice through client database and outcomes evaluation. Synthesize and use the results of these evaluations to make or recommend changes including policy, procedure or protocol documentation.
Practice effective problem identification and resolution skills as a method of sound decision making.
Apply in-depth knowledge of nursing theory and principles relative to the care of patients with complex psychiatric conditions, to include milieu therapy, group dynamics, use of psychotropic medications and crisis intervention.
Demonstrate a sound understanding of and management of therapeutic milieu; provide structure, social support, patient education, safety, and social skills training.!
Participate in discharge planning utilizing available resources, to include rehabilitation as appropriate.
Assess and intervene in clinical situations (including suicidal, homicidal, or elopement behavior) that may require physical and/or pharmacological restraints to maintain a safe and therapeutic environment.
Follow Command and unit specific policies for Seclusion/Restraint, Elopement, Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT), and Management of the Assaultive Patient.
Obtain 12 lead Electrocardiograms (EKGs), determine implications, and take indicated actions.
Successfully complete the 3-day Psychiatric Care Course within 14 weeks of assignment. Course will be provided at the Military Treatment Facility (MTF) at no cost to the contractor during the health care worker's regularly scheduled shifts.
Successfully complete all Command Learning Resource Guides (LRGs).
Successfully complete the Psychiatric Nursing Department Medication Test within 30 days of! assignment.
Successfully complete the Psychiatric Nursing Departme! nt Clinical Knowledge Examination within 30 days of assignment.
