POSITION:
Nurse Practitioner (Mental Health)
TOUR OF DUTY:
Administrative
The Nurse Practitioner for Mental Health will provide in-patient medical care for Veterans in the Post-Traumatic Stress Program.
Provide medication m! anagement to PTSD inpatient mental health patients and conduct pain management groups within scope of practice
Make referrals to other mental health professionals
Provide education and counseling for patients in preventive care and use of prescribed medications within scope of practice
Order prescriptions, diagnostic tests (labs, EKGs, etc), and provide evaluation and notify physicians of abnormal results
Provide assistance in the saboxone (buprenorphine) clinic including: follow-ups, labs, and group participation
Provide cross-coverage for in-patient substance abuse and long-term psychiatry
Evaluate patients and manage acute/chronic illnesses including evaluating patient's response to pharmacologic and non-pharmacological treatment regiments in consultation with physicians
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
U.S. citizenship
English language proficiency (written and spoke! n)
Physical standards - All applicants must meet the physical ! standards for the position. A physical examination prior to employment may be required.
Registration - Current, full, active and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the U.S. or in the District of Columbia. The RN must maintain a current, full active and unrestricted registration to continue employment with the VA.
Educational requirements can be met as follows: Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State agency, and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed: a) The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC); or b) The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of p! rofessional nursing. OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active, and unrestricted registration, will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
